Chisora vs Wilder: Winner's Road to Usyk's IBF Title (2026)

The winner of the highly anticipated Derek Chisora vs Deontay Wilder bout could be one step closer to a shot at the IBF heavyweight title, currently held by the formidable Oleksandr Usyk. This is according to renowned promoter Frank Warren, who believes the outcome of this fight will have major implications for the future of both boxers.

Chisora, a former world title contender, and Wilder, a former WBC champion, are both veterans of the sport, aged 42 and 40 respectively. Warren asserts that the loser of this battle may have no choice but to retire, as their age and the intensity of the fight could prove too much for a comeback.

"It's a make-or-break situation for both of them. One of them will be forced to hang up their gloves. They're not spring chickens, and a loss at this stage could be the end of the road," Warren told Sky Sports.

However, the victor will have a golden opportunity to challenge for the IBF title, which is currently part of Usyk's impressive collection of belts, including the WBC and WBA championships. Chisora, in particular, is well-positioned as the highest-ranked contender in the IBF's heavyweight ratings.

"The IBF will be calling for Usyk to defend his title. He's already received consent from the WBC to have a voluntary defense, and after that, he's expected to face Agit Kabayel, the WBC mandatory challenger. But the mandatories are coming, and they can't be ignored," Warren explained.

While the prospect of a mandatory challenge is enticing, Warren raises an interesting question: What does Usyk want? Is he keen to defend his titles, or is he looking to explore other avenues?

"Usyk is a man who's achieved greatness in boxing. He's left his mark as the heavyweight champion of the 21st century, and he might be more interested in securing a big payday than defending his titles. It's a decision only he can make," Warren added.

As the boxing world eagerly awaits the outcome of Chisora vs Wilder, the question of who will challenge Usyk for the IBF title remains a tantalizing prospect. Will the winner seize the opportunity, or will Usyk's plans take a different turn? Only time will tell.
